quiet fire but with stacks of heat excellent charcoal and does

not take too long to be ready for cooking on

the logs keep their shape well

Hazel Firewood: Shrub

It is actually quite unusual to see a

Hazel Tree as such as they very

rarely have a trunk due to their

suitability for coppicing.

However, if they are not coppiced

they will eventually throw up a trunk

which can reach a height of up to

ten metres.

All the nuts produced by the Hazel are

totally edible - especially when they

are covered in chocolate!

The Common Hazel is

probably the most famous and is closely

followed by the Filbert.

Turkey is the largest producer of

these nuts with over 600,000

tonnes a year
