not take too long to be ready for cooking on

It is actually quite unusual to see a

Hazel Tree as such as they very

rarely have a trunk due to their

suitability for coppicing.

However, if they are not coppiced

they will eventually throw up a trunk

which can reach a height of up to

ten metres.

All the nuts produced by the Hazel are

totally edible - especially when they

are covered in chocolate!

The Common Hazel is

probably the most famous and is closely

followed by the Filbert.

Turkey is the largest producer of

these nuts with over 600,000

tonnes a year

The Hazel Tree is deciduous and

there are eighteen different species.

These can be

found all over the world from the

Himalayas to Northern America

and of course, England!

Not only does the Hazel produce

wonderful firewood and nuts but

because of its' flexibility it is also

extensively used for making

hurdles, stakes and stunning

garden furniture.

in folklore and is considered to be a

magical tree.

Besides being able to use the branches for

water divining they are also thought
